Hi guys,

If you're going to use Facebook properly and want a "like" option then rather than have a group, as I set it up, you'll need to create a "page".

Follow this link then you'll not have me as an admin either ;~).

Then email all in the group and let them know that you're moving to a new page with the link attached.

Cheers
Fegan

Hey guys,

This post is in response to the High 5 on road rash.

I am a physician and unfortunately have some recent experience. Three weeks ago, while in the lead on the bike portion of a triathlon, I went down hard in gravel with road rash over the entire left side of my body. I was in the hospital for 4 days, with a pneumothorax (partially collapsed lung) that needed a chest tube inserted as well as a fractured clavicle and scapula with bruised ribs.

The nursing staff treating me used only hydrogen peroxide to clean my road rash twice a day and bandaged the areas. When I came home, we cleaned the areas with soap and water and kept them dressed until they scabbed over. I didn't use anything to keep them moist. I can report that the road rash is almost completely gone and have no scars despite some pretty deep gashes. In fact, I had some areas on my shoulder that healed before the orthopedic surgeon repaired my clavicle fracture; he was concerned with the amount of road rash initially in that he would not be able to make a clean incision.

I was also previously under the opinion that areas effected by road rash should be kept moist, but this method seemed to work with me. In my case, with the amount of dirt and gravel, I think the hydrogen peroxide was key in preventing infection.

I'm on the mends now and looking forward to the day soon when Coach John Newsom can help me keep that lead on the bike and pull it out on the run.
